The Sasha Fund

SDAA maintains a fund which is used exclusively for the purpose of offering rewards in cases of animal theft or abuse. When law enforcement believes a reward would help procure information identifying the perpetrator. We work with the San Diego County Dept. of Animal Services to coordinate the reward offers. Thanks to recent donations we have been able to increase the reward to $5,000 for each incident we identify.

The Sasha Fund was created after a cocker spaniel, named Sasha, was stolen from a disabled woman in La Mesa. Sasha ultimately got away from her captor, but was hit by a car while running in the street. SDAA immediately offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the guilty party. Many members of the public contacted us, wanting to help. So we decided to develop a special account, separate from our operating budget, that would be used exclusively for offering similar rewards. The reward has been instrumental in helping to identify abusers in three cases in the past. However, since our donors have made a larger reward possible, we expect to have even more success in the future.
